Combined second weekend USD 107 million for ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ may hit ‘Haunted Mansion’s preview

Warner Bros’ ‘Barbie’ and Universal’s ‘Oppenheimer’ may have a combined USD 107 million collection, hitting Paramount’s Tom Cruise sequel ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ hard that witnessed weekend 2 decline with USD 19.3 million.

Earlier, the box-office experts thought that the Tom Cruise sequel was going to be summer’s biggest hit after the summer’s biggest hit in ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’. The experts also expect the second weekend USD 72 million for the Mattel doll and USD 35 million for ‘Oppenheimer’.

Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ is being screened in more than 200 theatres including those with Dolby vision, the Mattel doll will not get slowed down. It was also a record Monday for Warner Bros with USD 26.1 million as it pulled away the ‘Haunted Mansion’ family audience. Exhibition and presales indicate a beginning of USD 30 million for the movie, but people should not be surprised if it opens between USD 20 million to USD 25 million.


The Justin Simien-directed movie is close to where Eddie Murphy's 2003 version, which began with USD 25.2 million and ended with USD 75 million in the domestic market. The film is attracting particularly Black, Hispanic/Latino audiences. Stars like Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Danny De Vito, and Jared Leto have acted in this film.

‘Haunted Mansion’ was launched before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, but the walkout by the veterans hit it hard as none of its actors appeared on the red carpet. Its national previews will start on Wednesday at 3 pm and its Dolby Early Access Screenings will take place at 7 pm.
