Colorado police shot and killed a 22-year-old man five times. The man contacted 911 for help following a car accident.

The incident is a shocker amidst the call for change in policing policies. The moment officers approached Glass, who had called for assistance in removing his car from a shrub, is seen on a recently made available body cam video.

When the police came, Glass claimed he was afraid and resisted getting out of his car despite the cops' shouting at him. Glass refused to exit his vehicle for more than an hour. When he finally got a knife out, the police opened fire on the car after firing bean bag rounds and tasing glass, as per media reports.

His parents, Simon and Sally Glass, are now requesting that the police be held accountable while state officials investigate the shooting. The Glass case is under the purview of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, but the family wants to press charges. Simon criticized the police's response to his son's call and their failure to defuse the issue and calm him down.

Mother Sally referred to the police as bullies and urged the county to remove them and install gentler officers in their place.

In a statement released Tuesday, Heidi McCollum, the district attorney for the Fifth Judicial District, which includes Clear Creek County, said that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and her office are looking into the matter. In the press-released videos, Glass can be seen refusing to exit his vehicle, expressing his terror to the authorities, and drawing heart shapes with his hands.

Glass appeared to panic as the officers finally broke the window and seized a knife.

The shooting occurs during widespread calls for police changes that emphasize de-escalation, crisis intervention, and alternative policing initiatives.

Police have not revealed if Glass was given access to any behavioral health professionals.

According to use-of-force and de-escalation specialists who examined the video, a behavioral health specialist or crisis response team, two increasingly common programmes nationwide, would have helped defuse the situation and prevent Glass' death.
