Coldest Windchill ever recorded in US at minus 108 degrees F, says report. Check Saturday forecast

Temperature has dropped to record breaking lows in Northeast areas of the US. The Windchill in New Hampshire, and on the summit of Mount Washington has dropped to minus 108 F, according to a report. National Weather Service in its forecast has stated that dangerously cold wind chill temperatures would continue to impact the Northeast US through Saturday evening.

The Windchill is reportedly the lowest in the US since meteorologists started tracking Windchill, Brian Brettschneider, an Alaskan climate scientist, was quoted as saying by USA Today.

On Friday night, the temperature on the Mount Washington fell to minus 46.1 degrees F, and wind chill was recorded minus 107 degrees F. The windspeed reached 97 mph, the National Weather Service said, as per the USA Today.



Record low temperature was recorded in Providence, Rhode Island, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Boston, Massachusetts.

"The current Mount Washington Observatory (MWO) was established in 1933, but there are records at Mount Washington going further back that include a -50 F reading on January 22, 1885. This is also the NH state record for the coldest temperature. Still -46 F with 97 mph winds and a -108 F wind chill at 10 pm," NWS Eastern Region tweeted.


The concept of the Wind chill was pioneered in the 1940s. However, in 2001, the wind chill was modified.

"Dangerously cold wind chill temperatures will continue to impact the Northeast U.S. through Saturday evening along with blizzard conditions in northern Maine. Heavy snow will move into the Sierras of California Saturday," National Weather Service stated.
