A widespread internet disruption early Monday left millions of users unable to access popular platforms like Snapchat, Amazon, Coinbase, Reddit, Hulu, EA, and Xbox Network. The outage has been traced back to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which reported “significant error rates” in one of its key U.S. regions.

Amazon Web Services confirmed the issue originated in its “US-EAST-1 Region” based in northern Virginia. AWS confirmed that the issue was linked to its DynamoDB service, which powers much of the online infrastructure used by these platforms. The company stated there were “significant error rates” for requests made to its DynamoDB service, which handles critical backend operations for countless apps and websites.

"During this time, customers may be unable to create or update Support Cases," said the update.

"Engineers were immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause."

The company has been providing regular updates as engineers work to restore full functionality across all impacted regions.

Coinbase, the world's biggest bitcoin custodian and the largest US-based cryptocurrency exchange, has told customers "all funds are safe" during this morning's outages.
