Coffee recall alert: Glass found in popular brew sold across 48 states – check yours now
Dollar General has announced a recall of its Clover Valley Instant Coffee from store shelves in 48 states after reports of possible glass fragments. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the recall was initiated when a customer found glass contamination inside the product. While no injuries have been reported, ingesting glass can cause injuries, including cuts to the mouth, throat, and digestive tract as well, making the issue a critical food safety concern.

Details of the Recalled Product

The recall involves 8-ounce jars of Clover Valley Instant Coffee with the following identifiers:

  • UPC: 876941004069
  • Lot numbers: L-5163, L-5164, L-5165
  • Best-by dates: December 13 or December 14, 2026
These mentioned products were sold exclusively at Dollar General between July 9 and July 21, 2025 in all states except Alaska and Hawaii. The lot code and best-by date is printed near the container’s neck.

What Customers Should Do

Authorities advise consumers not to drink or serve the recalled coffee. Instead, they should:

  1. Dispose the jar safely.
  2. Contact Dollar General Customer Care at 1-888-309-9030 (6 a.m.–1 a.m. CST daily) or via customercare@dollargeneral.com to request a full refund.
No receipt is necessary, if customers can provide the necessary product details.

FDA and Company Response

Dollar General expressed the concern over the incident and reassured customers it is working closely with suppliers to highlight how the contamination occurred. The company is reviewing manufacturing and quality control procedures to avoid similar issues in the future.

The FDA is overseeing the recall process to ensure affected products are removed from circulation and urging consumers to report any injuries or safety concerns through its MedWatch program.

This is the latest string of food recalls involving potential contamination from foreign objects. Other recent issues include:

  • Bakery cookies recalled due to wood splinters
  • Packaged snacks pulled from shelves for containing plastic pieces
  • Ready-to-eat meals recalled for potential metal contamination
Food safety experts note that while recalls are inconvenient, they are a sign that monitoring systems are working to protect public health.

How to Check If Your Coffee Is Safe

To see whether your coffee is affected by the current recall, verify the UPC, lot code, and best-by date printed on the jar. If they match with this information provided earlier, you should follow the official instructions for disposal and request a refund from Dollar General.
