A clouded leopard seems to have gone missing at a zoo in Dallas on Friday. The authorities have closed the zoo on Friday as the police and zoo officials search for the animal.

The zoo officials have described the clouded leopard as not dangerous. It seems to be hiding somewhere on the zoo grounds, the officials added.

This clouded leopard was named Nova. The animal weighs around 20-25 pounds (9-11 kilograms), as per Harrison Edell, executive vice president of animal care and conservation at Dallas Zoo.


The search for the small cat in the largest zoo in Texas has been focused on scouring trees. This is because the clouded leopards like to climb, Edell added.

The cat is still missing. It is a serious situation, the zoo said on Twitter. The animal seems to not pose any threat to humans, Edell said.


If anything, the animal is actually nervous and afraid of people, Edell said.

The authorities have still not disclosed about how the animal escaped its enclosure. At the zoo, there is another clouded leopard. It is Nova's sister, who is still in its habitat, Edell said.

Earlier as well, animals have escaped enclosures at the zoo in Dallas. In 2004, a 340-pound (154-kilogram) gorilla, which was named Jabari, jumped over a wall and went on a 40-minute rampage. In it, three people were injured before police shot and killed the animal.
