Clayton Kershaw makes history as Dodgers rally to beat White Sox

Clayton Kershaw etched his name into Dodgers and MLB history Wednesday night, recording his 3,000th career strikeout and sparking a thrilling 5–4 walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox at Dodger Stadium.

Despite yielding four runs on nine hits through five-plus innings, Kershaw fanned three batters in the sixth-capping the frame by freezing Vinny Capra with a slider on his season-high 100th pitch.

At 37 years old, he became just the fourth left-hander ever (joining CC Sabathia, Steve Carlton, and Randy Johnson) to reach the 3,000-K plateau, and only the 20th pitcher overall.


Trailed 1-4, the Dodgers mounted a dramatic comeback in the ninth. Shohei Ohtani’s fielder’s choice grounder scored the tying run, and Mookie Betts followed with a sacrifice fly, knotting the game at 4–4. Then, with one out, Freddie Freeman delivered the walk-off single to right off Steven Wilson.


Ohtani, who drove in a run earlier and scored the winner, crossed home plate on Freeman’s hit, while rookie reliever Will Klein earned his first career victory.

Los Angeles’ offense also featured solo homers by Will Smith (his 11th) and Andy Pages (his 17th), extending the Dodgers’ hot stretch to eight wins in nine games.


Chicago had built its early lead on an RBI single from Andrew Benintendi and a two-run blast by Austin Slater, plus an Edgar Quero RBI.

Late in the sixth, third baseman Max Muncy exited with a left knee injury, and the White Sox lost outfielder Michael A. Taylor to a shoulder issue. But Kershaw’s milestone moment and the ninth-inning rally completed a memorable Dodgers night-one that underscored the enduring brilliance of a future Hall of Famer.
