Quentin Tarantino's latest book ‘Cinema Speculation’, his first nonfiction effort, is a compilation of essays organized around the notable American films from the 1970s that influenced him as a young man.

Nearly 900 movies are mentioned throughout the book, which has been collated into a checklist by Christian Ryan, Letterboxd user. The films mentioned include The Deer Hunter and Brother John, starring the late Sidney Poitier.


Other films mentioned are 1991's Boyz N The Hood, the 1938 gangster movie Angels With Dirty Faces which starred James Cagney, and 2018 Rocky spinoff sequel Creed II.

Tarantino also criticizes this list of favorites. The filmmaker is scathing in the book of modifications made to the race of several characters in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, which contradicted Paul Schrader's original script.

Tarantino stated that regardless of how you cut it, Scorsese, producers Michael and Julia Phillips, and Columbia Pictures converting Sport's pimp persona from black to white was a cultural compromise. The filmmaker has now confirmed two book tour events at The London Palladium for March of next year.
