With a closed beta test launching in June on Steam, fans are getting their first real look at what makes this game stand out.
If you want to help shape the future of Chrono Odyssey, you can sign up for the beta on Steam now. The full game is expected to launch later this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
About the game
Chrono Odyssey is set in Setera, a world where time doesn’t behave normally. Think past, present, and even other dimensions colliding. Executive Producer Yoon Sangtae says the game draws inspiration from cosmic horror films like Prometheus, the alien swarm of StarCraft’s Zerg, and even classic RPGs like Chrono Trigger.
At the heart of the game is a powerful tool called the Chronotector, which lets players manipulate time itself. You can uncover hidden paths, unlock secrets from the past, and even get glimpses of the future. This isn’t just another fetch-quest MMO. Instead of following a strict main storyline, players shape their own adventure.
- No fixed roles: You’re not stuck being just a tank, healer, or damage dealer. Play how you want.
- Active combat: Dodge, parry, and switch between two weapons in real-time.
- Explore and craft your way to max level—even without fighting.
- Time-travel puzzles and dungeons add variety beyond combat.
The world is powered by Unreal Engine 5, bringing lifelike environments with surreal touches. From strange creatures to shifting timelines, the visual experience is just as ambitious as the gameplay.
Chrono Odyssey also includes content that falls under the Exploration/Adventure category. Labyrinths are twisted rifts filled with puzzles, offering a break from combat, revealing secrets, and rewarding players at the end with a 'special treasure'. Time Portals, as you can guess from the name, are doors into the past where players gather materials and learn more about Setera's history.
Sangtae says this beta won’t be the final version of the game, but rather, a chance to improve it with help from the community. “This is just the beginning,” he says. More regions, classes, and time-based content are coming.
