Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is well-known for favouring practical effects over VFX. Going by the same series, the filmmaker has revealed that he recreated the first detonation of a nuclear weapon without the use of any CGI effects for his upcoming film "Oppenheimer." For this movie, under Nolan's direction, actor Cillian Murphy will play the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, an American physicist who was instrumental in the creation of the atomic bomb during the Second World War.

Nolan told Total Film magazine that recreating the Trinity test without the use of CGI effects was a "huge challenge" for them. Trinity was the code name of the first nuclear weapon detonation. Nolan said that the film's visual effects supervisor, Andrew Jackson, was looking to do most of the visual elements of "Oppenheimer" practically.

The filmmaker said that "Oppenheimer" was one of the most challenging projects he had ever taken in terms of scale. He added that the film has "immense scope and scale." Nolan said that they faced "big logistical" and "practical" challenges while filming "Oppenheimer." While praising his "extraordinary" crew, Nolan stated that he was "thrilled" with what his team has achieved.
