Christmas 2026 snow forecast: White Christmas predictions for New York, Washington, 14 other states, says Old Farmer's Almanac. Details here

El Niño is likely to shift weather patterns to bring more moisture, but with it higher temperatures. That should help erase persistent Western drought, but it won't likely make Northern snow-lovers happy, according to reports.

Christmas 2026 snow forecast is out. Old Farmer's Almanac in its long-range weather predictions stated that parts of 16 states across the New England and Rockies regions will witness white Christmas this year.

While making these predictions, Old Farmer's Almanac has combined meteorology, solar science, and climatology. NOAA is also studying cold arctic air, polar vortex and the mild pacific air.

Old Farmer's Almanac has stated that 16 states will have snowfall in Christmas this year. These states are New York, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, New Hampshire, Montana, Alaska, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.

According to Old Farmer's Almanac, there are possibilities of snow in areas of Appalachians, Midwest, and the Plains. White Christmas is a possibility in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Earlier in October, the federal government's seasonal outlook and other meteorologists' forecast predicted that winter in the United States looks like it will generally be wetter and warmer, but not necessarily snowier. You can thank or blame El Niño.

El Niño is likely to shift weather patterns to bring more moisture, but with it higher temperatures. That should help erase persistent Western drought, but it won't likely make Northern snow-lovers happy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in October.

El Niño, the natural but temporary warming in parts of the Pacific, generally warms the globe. Although it disrupts weather conditions around the world in dramatically different ways, its effects tend to follow predictable regional patterns, especially when El Niño is strong like it is right now. That gives forecasters greater confidence in what lies ahead.

Part or all of 41 of the Lower 48 states are forecast to be warmer than normal. No states — or even parts of states — are forecast to be cooler than average. Florida, Louisiana, southern Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi are forecast to be near normal. There's equal chance of warm, cold or normal in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Southern California, Nevada, Wyoming, western Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

Chicago, Boston, New York and Philadelphia are forecast to get about half or less of their normal winter snow, meteorology department stated.
