Will Smith – Chris Rock feud doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon. The Men in Black actor released a video on YouTube a few weeks ago and apologised to Chris for slapping him during the Oscars. However, during a stand-up gig alongside Dave Chapelle, the 57-year-old comedian called Will’s apology a 'hostage video".
The feud between the two artistes began during the 2022 Academy Awards. During his presentation, Chris Rock cracked a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, for being bald. In reaction, the 53-year-old actor walked up to the stage and slapped Chris, and warned him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. The incident shocked those in attendance and viewers around the world, which was further amplified after Will Smith won the award for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard.
Will Smith issues an apology to Chris Rock and his family
Following the incident, Will received scathing criticism from all over the world, which pushed him into depression, he claimed in the apology video. In July, Will released a video on YouTube, tendering his apology to Chris Rock and asking the comedian to give him a chance to meet him and make a truce. Chris, on the other hand, who remained silent initially, has just started to open up about the incident.
The South Carolina-born comedian raked another controversy recently when he compared Will’s actions to that of O.J. Simpson. While at a gig recently, Chris said that the Academy wanted him to host the awards for 2023 as well, which he felt was like asking Nicole Brown Simpson to visit the restaurant to grab her eyeglasses. Fans across the globe and Nicole’s family called out Chris for his ‘distasteful’ joke and some even suggest that he deserved the slap from Will Smith.
