Chinese influencer Tang Feiji dies after his private aircraft crashes and bursts into flames during livestream

A 55-year-old Chinese influencer died Saturday after he crashed his lightweight aircraft while on a livestream on Douyin, the Chinese version for TikTok. With over 100k followers, Tang Feizi was a rather infleuential presence on Chinese social media, reports said.

He was livestreaming while flying his ultralight aircraft when he lost control of it. Videos on social media showed him taking off, flying into the distance, and then suddenly crashing to the ground, after which the aircraft burst into flames, as stated by People’s report.


Feizi was showing hundreds of his followers the aircraft, which he had earlier raved about making him 350,000 Chinese Yuan (around $49,000 USD)light, with the China News Service also reporting that it weighed a mere 250 pounds and was single- seater. Local authorities confirmed that the crash did not cause any other damage to the area.

He also claimed the aircraft could reach 2,000 feet in altitude and fly more than 60 miles per hour. Feiji told viewers he had mastered the aircraft’s controls after just six hours of total practice.

After the deadly incident, his social media accounts were switched to private. In an earlier interview, Feiji admitted that in 2024 his aircraft had two fuel gauge malfunctions, which made the plane drop less than 30 feet each time, as mentioned in the report by People.
