China Mocks at the first U.S Presidential Debate, says 'Very Entertaining'

The Chinese media and social media users found the first US Presidential Debate to be amusing. Many ridiculed both the candidates and questioned western democracy.

The first US Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden has concluded. Most of the press coverage pointed towards Biden’s lack of energy and health concerns. However, far away from the US, the Chinese found the entire debate entertaining. The Chinese have sought to establish a new world order by challenging the Americans. The latter has slapped many sanctions on many Chinese products. It is in this context that the Chinese saw the debate between the two potential presidential nominees. Many Chinese nationals took to social media to express their views.

What do the Chinese think?

Hu Xijin who is a former state media editor wrote on X that there were personal attacks, hazy memory and candidates mocking each other. He said that the entire debate was very entertaining. He also added that the debate was a negative advertisement for western democracy and it has been negatively received by many.

No difference between the two presidential nominees:

Financial news site ‘Cailianshe’ commented that the two leaders were evenly matched. He termed one nominee as suffering from Alzheimer while the other was mentally ill. State owned ‘Beijing News’ commented that both the candidates exposed their shortcomings. They said that Biden was confused while Trump continued to spread rumors.

Other social media commentators called the debate a kindergarten level discussion. Many of the users questioned the western model of democracy and ridiculed the Americans for wanting to impose this in other countries around the world.

Relations between China and the US:

The relations between the two countries have been generally troubled. This has only increased in recent times during Trump’s administration and which has been continued by Biden. The two countries have clashed on matters pertaining to trade and commerce, Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the South China sea. They are fighting to gain control and maintain the world order/establish a new world order.
