Chelsea, Italy legend Gianluca Vialli admitted to hospital as concerns about his ongoing cancer battle grew
Gianluca Vialli has quit his role as Italy’s head of delegation because of cancer. He was diagnosed in 2019.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Vialli’s mother, Maria Terea, has also arrived in England to be by his side.
Vialli was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017. He has already undergone two courses of chemotherapy. In a statement made by him, he wrote that after negotiating with his oncologists, he has decided to focus on treatment. Their goal is to use his psycho-physical energies to heal his body and overcome the disease.
Vialli joined the team as the head of the delegation to work with his close friend, Roberto Mancini. They both celebrated Italy’s win at the Euro 2020 at Wembley.
The former Sampdoria striker won the scudetto, European Cup-Winners’ cup and three Italian Cups with the team. He went on to Juventus to claim the Serie A title, the Champions League, a UEFA cup and an Italian Cup.
Vialli had an incredible record at Chelsea before he became their player-manager.
Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina also commented on the situation. He also suggested a possible return of Vialli as head of the delegation. He said Vialli is the Italian champion and will remain the same in the future. He thanked the star for his hard work and dedication. He added that Vialli should count on them to be by his side because they are a ‘team on and off the pitch’.
