Tyler Robinson, suspect in Charlie Kirk killing, expected in court Tuesday; prosecutors preparing charges, FBI continues investigation
Utah County prosecutors are preparing to file charges Tuesday (September 16) against Tyler Robinson, the suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray confirmed in a statement that his office is reviewing evidence to determine which charges Robinson will face.

“Assuming all goes as planned and we file charges on Tuesday, Mr. Robinson’s first appearance will be Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 pm MDT,” according to Christopher Ballard, chief of staff at the public information office at the Utah County attorney’s office. The hearing is scheduled to be held virtually. Gray is also expected to have a news conference on Tuesday to announce the charges and make a public statement on the case.

Robinson, a student from Washington, Utah, is currently being held without bail on preliminary counts, including aggravated murder. Investigators say he used a Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle in the September 10 shooting, which left Kirk fatally wounded and sent shockwaves across the political landscape.

Federal and state investigators continue to piece together Robinson’s alleged planning in the days leading up to the attack, including messages recovered from his roommate’s Discord account detailing efforts to retrieve and conceal the rifle. The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information in the case as forensic testing of the weapon and ammunition continues.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and one of the most prominent conservative voices on college campuses and national media. His death has drawn international condemnation and tributes from political leaders.
