Charles Barkley faces steep odds ahead of celebrity golf tournament in Nevada

Charles Barkley enters the upcoming celebrity golf tournament as the perennial underdog, facing steep odds to claim victory in the annual American Century Championship at South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Known as much for his unorthodox swing as his larger-than-life personality, Barkley enters the event as the longest shot to win, according to oddsmakers. At Caesars Sportsbook, Barkley’s odds to win the celebrity golf tournament stand at a staggering 7,500-1, ESPN reported on Friday.

Barkley finished a personal best 58th in last year’s event, showing signs of improvement. For this year, the sportsbook has set the over/under on his final placing at 65.5, reflecting continued skepticism about his chances.


Last year’s champion, former tennis pro Mardy Fish, returns to the celebrity golf tournament, but this year’s betting favorite is retired NHL star Joe Pavelski.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, Pavelski leads the odds at +220, just ahead of Fish at +240. CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo follows at +350, with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry at +425.

The 90-player field features several other big names, including Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (45-1), actor Alfonso Ribeiro (175-1), Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (275-1), ESPN analyst Jason Kelce (350-1), and comedian Larry the Cable Guy (2,000-1).
