Chaim Topol passes away at 87, Israeli PM expresses condolences

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the passing of Chaim Topol, the renowned actor famous for his portrayal of Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof”, at the age of 87. In a statement, Netanyahu expressed his condolences and paid tribute to Topol as a multi-talented artist with remarkable charm and vitality.

Netanyahu lamented the loss of the ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ actor, acknowledging that the strings of his fiddle had ceased playing. He praised Topol's love for the land of Israel and the reciprocal affection that the people of Israel had for him. After being drafted into the army in Israel, he was assigned to the entertainment unit, which sparked his interest in acting. During his service, he met his future wife, Galia Topol.
