Celtics name Joe Mazzulla as new head coach. Details here
Joe Mazzulla, who served as interim coach since September, has been named the new head coach of the Boston Celtics, and received a contract extension.

Although the terms of the extension were not disclosed, it was confirmed that 34-year-old Joe Mazzulla had been serving as the team's interim coach since September, just before the start of training camp, after Ime Udoka was suspended for the 2022-23 season due to several violations of team rules.
Since then, Joe Mazzulla has guided the Boston Celtics to the best record in the NBA (42-17) as they head into the All-Star Break. As a result of his outstanding performance, he has been selected to coach Team Giannis during the All-Star Game this weekend in Salt Lake City.
The Boston Celtics started the season strong with a record of 18-4, and they currently hold the NBA's third-best offensive rating and fourth-best defensive rating. This makes the Celtics the sole team to rank in the top five in both categories. Only Cleveland and Philadelphia are also in the top 10.
The announcement made on Thursday marks another step in Joe Mazzulla's rapid rise up the coaching ranks. Just a decade ago, he was an assistant at Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia. He then joined Boston's G League affiliate as an assistant coach in 2016.
