Captain America: Brave New World, the highly anticipated MCU movie, originally slated for a May 3, 2024 release, encountered a shift in its release date. The change was announced during San Diego Comic-Con, relocating the release to July 26, 2024, and accompanying this shift was a title change from New World Order to Brave New World.

Amid concerns about delays due to ongoing strikes within the entertainment industry, Brave New World found itself in a state of uncertainty. This included the writers' strike, which had recently concluded, as well as the persistent actors' strike.

Encouraging Updates on Brave New World

Despite these worries and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, a recent report from Deadline offers a glimmer of hope regarding Captain America: Brave New World's release date. The article highlights the uncertainty around the release of Deadpool 3, initially scheduled for May 3, 2024, which has been left without a confirmed release date due to production halts.

Interestingly, Deadpool 3 took over the summer release date previously held by Captain America 4, which is currently scheduled for July 26, 2024. The insider source mentioned in the Deadline report suggests that there is a "long shot" chance that Brave New World could revert to its original May 3 release date, primarily because of its advanced state of production.

While Deadpool 3 had only been filming for two months before the strikes disrupted production, Captain America 4 had already wrapped its three-month shoot by the end of June. Consequently, Brave New World could smoothly proceed through post-production, barring any significant reshoots required later in the process.

Release Date Speculations

To put these developments into perspective, it's worth noting that the last two Captain America movies, The Winter Soldier and Civil War, had 273 and 258 days, respectively, between wrapping production and their release dates. Given that Brave New World finished filming around June 30, it will have been wrapped for 308 days by the originally scheduled release date of May 3.

This suggests that Marvel Studios has ample time to bring Captain America 4 to theaters by May. The shift to July was likely a strategic move, possibly to ensure Deadpool 3 had a more favorable release slot.

Historically, early May releases from Marvel Studios have been reserved for movies with high box office potential, such as the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Civil War, and Doctor Strange franchises. With production yet to begin due to the ongoing actors' strike, fans may need to brace for a delay in Thunderbolts to 2025, leaving Captain America 4 and Deadpool 3 as the only new MCU movies for the next year.

While reshoots are common for MCU films, provided they are not extensive and the actors' strike doesn't prolong further, they should not pose a significant issue. In a worst-case scenario, Captain America: Brave New World may maintain its July date, leading to an over eight-month gap between MCU movies following the release of The Marvels on November 10 this year.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently set to grace theaters on July 26, 2024, with the promise of more updates as the situation evolves.
