Boxing legend Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, one of the highest-paid athletes worldwide, is looking forward to a historic fight night this weekend as he is pitted against an unbeaten challenger from Cuba, William Scull. The match is for the men’s undisputed super middleweight championship.

The high-stakes clash is scheduled for Saturday, May 3.

Canelo vs Scull: What to know?

Continuing with his long-followed tradition of facing opponents during the Cinco de Mayo weekend, Canelo is coming to the fixture after his match against Edgar Berlanga in September last year. The Las Vegas game ended with a unanimous decision, Fox Sports reported.

He got stripped of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title ahead of this match as Canelo decided to take on Berlanga and not Scull, despite the latter being the mandatory challenger for the IBF title.

In his almost two decades-long professional career in boxing, Canelo will be contesting for the maiden time outside of North America.

This was made possible after Canelo signed on with the Riyadh Seasons of Saudi Arabia for a four-fight deal in February this year.

As per reports, many Canelo fans are looking up to this fight as a warm-up match for the boxer as he is expected to take on Terence Crawford towards the end of 2025. That fight is said to be in the ending stages of negotiations.

Saturday's fight lands Canelo in Saudi Arabia for the first time, offering him a major chance to get back his IBF belt.

As per DAZN News, the Mexican fighter is having his WBA, WBC and WBO titles on the line against Scull, who bagged the IBF belt in 2024.
