Canadian country music legend Ian Tyson passes away at 89
Ian Tyson, a well-known Canadian country music performer, passed away at the age of 89 on Thursday, December 29.

Canadian country music icon Ian Tyson, 89, passed away on Thursday, December 29. Family members of the deceased singer revealed the news in a formal press announcement that the icon passed away on his ranch in Southern Alberta, Canada.
The acclaimed musician has received accolades for his contributions to the music world and his staunch support for the ranch country culture in Canada.
Tyson had a key role in the development of Canadian folk music. In 1956, at Vancouver's Heidelberg Café, he made his debut as a professional country musician. Later, he performed with the rock band The Sensational Stripes.
The vocalist experienced popularity following his meeting with Sylvia Fricker in 1959. Tyson & Fricker would go from being sideshow performers to being a full-fledged musical act in 1961, following that, the two began performing as a group. In 1969, they founded and took the helm of The Great Speckled Bird.

The coroner’s office also reported that Houston had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, Benadryl and other medications in her system at the time of her death. Over the course of his career, Ian Tyson produced a number of well-known hits, such as "Four Strong Winds," "The Old Double Diamond," "Someday Soon," and "You Were on My Mind," the latter of which he sang with Fricker. Tyson was elected into both the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame by 1989 and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1992 together with Fricker , whom he had divorced in 1975. Tyson got the distinction of being made a Member of the Order of Canada two years later, in 1994. In 2003 and 2006, he also received the Alberta Order of Excellence and the Governor General's Performing Arts Award.
