Will Melania Trump be able to halt the falling popularity of her husband Donald Trump who is a Republican hopeful for the 2024 US Presidential Election? 'New York Post' has reported that she will join a fundraising event later this month as a strategy to portray herself as a "softer, more moderate voice" for the Trump campaign. Confirming her participation, Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf told the news outlet, "The Trump campaign recognizes that Melania is their secret weapon." He added further, "Her appeal is critical to win battleground states and undecided voters, especially now that they’ve won the primary and are hyper-focused on the general."

Trump's waning popularity

The decision of the Trump campaign officials has come at a time when it has become clear that the former president is quickly losing his grip over the voters. In a poll survey conducted last week, 43 percent of the people favored the former president, while 42 percent voted for Joe Biden. It was also found that Trump would get just 51 percent votes against 49 percent for Joe Biden if all other candidates and undecided voters were removed. Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling told 'News Week' that among very likely voters, Biden is ahead 51 to 49. The survey was conducted between April 2 and 3 and 1,438 registered voters participated in it.

Donald Trump losing support

This is opposite to the poll survey conducted in January this year when about 68 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning voters said the former president was the candidate with the 'best chance' of getting elected in November. On the other hand, about 57 percent of Democrats felt President Biden was the Democratic Party’s choice.

Openly gay member to campaign for Trump

The Trump campaign will also rope in Richard Grenell, former acting National Intelligence Director and the first openly gay member of a presidential cabinet. Money raised by the Log Cabin Republicans, a group focused on reaching LGBTQ+ Republicans, will be primarily used to help Trump and other GOP candidates in 2024.
