The Philadelphia Flyers locked up one of their core young players on Monday, agreeing to terms with defenseman Cam York on a five-year contract worth $25.75 million. The deal, which carries a $5.15 million annual cap hit through the 2029–30 NHL season, finalizes what may be the team’s last major piece of offseason business.

York, 25, was the final restricted free agent left unsigned on the Flyers' roster. With the NHL’s salary cap projected to rise significantly - from $88 million last season to $113.5 million by 2027–28 - his cap hit could prove to be a smart long-term value.

"Cam has been a workhorse for our team over the last few seasons," said general manager Danny Briere. "We're excited by his development and look forward to his continued growth and emergence as a young leader within our group."

Drafted 14th overall in 2019, York has played his entire NHL career with Philadelphia, tallying 77 points in 235 games while averaging nearly 21 minutes of ice time per contest. His re-signing is the latest move in a busy offseason for the Flyers, who are aiming to transition from rebuilding to playoff contention.

Last month, the team acquired forward Trevor Zegras in a high-profile trade with Anaheim, and on the opening day of free agency added center Christian Dvorak and goaltender Dan Vladar to bolster their depth.

York, now signed through his prime years, expressed confidence in the organization's direction.

"I believe in this team, and I love the direction we are heading," he said. "I couldn't be more excited to continue this journey and build something special together."
