California Monterey Park shooting: What we know so far about suspect

The suspect in a shooting at a dance studio in California's Monterey Park has been revealed as a 72-year-old man. The septuagenarian man allegedly killed 11 people during Lunar New Year weekend, according to a CNN report.

It has been reported that the man had familiarities with the establishment. The suspect has been identified as one Huu Can Tran died after succumbing to self-inflicted bullet wounds.

The shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio took place after 10 pm as large number of Asian American community gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year weekend.


Authorities detected a large capacity magazine and 42 shell casings, according to a report.

Sometimes after the shooting, an armed person appeared at a second dance studio in nearby Alhambra but people snatched the gun away from the man.


Tran was a regular patron at Star Ballroom Dance Studio, according to details revealed by the suspect's ex-wife and a longtime acquaintance, according to the CNN report.

Tran's former wife said she met him at Star Ballroom two decades ago. She claimed that Tran was never violent to her but he could be impulsive in nature, as per the report.

Tran filed for divorce in 2005 and the divorce was finalised in 2006. As per documents showed by Tran's ex-wife, Tran was an immigrant from China, as per the CNN report.
