The Golden State Advantage EBT card works like a debit card, with monthly CalFresh benefits deposited electronically. Recipients can use it to purchase most grocery items, including fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread, cereals, and even seeds to grow food.

New CalFresh rules for seniors and people with disabilities

A simplified rule from November 2025 also makes it easier for them to qualify for higher benefits by allowing a utility deduction without proving heating or cooling costs.
