The towering shot, launched off Rangers starter Jack Leiter in the third inning, landed in the second deck in center field and marked the longest of Buxton’s 144 career home runs.
Only Mike Trout's 484-footer leads the list this year. Earlier, Buxton made a stunning diving catch in center field to deny Marcus Semien, and his homer later moved him past Hall of Famer Joe Mauer to 15th on the Twins’ all-time list.
Buxton’s 479-foot blast is also the fourth-longest home run at Target Field since 2015. Only a few have traveled farther, with the longest being a Statcast-projected 489-foot shot by Pete Alonso of the New York Mets on July 17, 2019.
Buxton’s latest feat adds another chapter to his highlight-filled career, combining power at the plate with elite defense in the outfield — all on the same night.
