The Brooklyn Nine-Nine family mourns the untimely loss of Andre Braugher, 61. Confirming his death on December 11, his rep, Jennifer Allen, shared that he succumbed to illness after a brief battle. In heartfelt tributes, Braugher's former B99 colleagues expressed their sorrow on social media.

The official account for the sitcom posted on Tuesday “Always our Captain. We love you, Andre.”

Terry Crews expressed his disbelief at the untimely departure, sharing gratitude for the privilege of having known, laughed, worked, and shared eight remarkable years with the irreplaceable talent of Andre Braugher.

He shared the pain of the loss and mentioned that Andre Braugher, who played Lieutenant Terry Jeffords, left too soon. Crews acknowledged the valuable lessons learned and expressed eternal gratitude for the wisdom, advice, kindness, and friendship received.

The TV series debuted on Fox in September 2013, completing five seasons before its cancellation in 2018. NBC later rescued the show, extending it for three more seasons until its finale in 2021. Braugher featured in all 153 episodes, portraying Captain Holt's transformation from a stern police captain dedicated to preserving his legacy as the NYPD's inaugural Black gay police captain to a valued member of the Nine-Nine family.

Holt emerged as a significant symbol of representation for the LGBTQIA+ community, challenging conventional queer stereotypes. During his time on the show, Braugher earned two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and garnered four Emmy Award nominations.
