British actor Julian Sands, 65, has been reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area after going hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains last week.
Police said that rescue work halted last weekend due to avalanche risks, though the search continued by drone and helicopter.

Sands has appeared in films and TV shows such as A Room with a View, 24, and Smallville. According to the PA news agency, Sands was reported missing at about 19:30 local time on Friday, January 13.


The San Bernardino County Sheriff's department's search and rescue crews began a search, but have been hampered by severe weather warnings and trail conditions. Police added that rescue work would be scheduled when the weather improves and conditions are safer for rescue crews.

A disaster declaration was issued by President Joe Biden after California has been battered by deadly storms. The department is also searching for another hiker, an American, who went missing in the same mountains.

For the last four weeks, Mount San Antonio, known locally as Mount Baldy, has been under adverse weather conditions. The authorities have warned hikers to think twice as it is extremely dangerous and even experienced hikers are getting into trouble.
