The Brewers, who lead the NL Central by six games over the Chicago Cubs ahead of their matchup in St. Louis, are setting their sights higher. A division crown and a first-round playoff bye remain well within reach as they navigate the season’s final 16 days. The Brewers showed the same resilience that has defined their season, storming back from a five-run hole to edge the St. Louis Cardinals 9-8 in 10 innings Saturday night.
This is the Brewers’ seventh playoff berth in the past eight seasons, a testament to their consistency under pressure. However, the club hasn’t advanced past a series since pushing the 2018 NL Championship Series to seven games. Before this recent run of success, Milwaukee had reached the postseason only twice between 1983 and 2017.
In the National League, the Dodgers and Phillies join Milwaukee as division leaders, with the Cubs, Padres, and Giants currently occupying wild-card slots. The Mets and Reds remain within striking distance of a postseason place.
Over in the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays hold the league’s best record at 86-62. Playoff races remain tight with Detroit, Boston, and the Yankees in contention, while Houston and Seattle - tied at 80-68 - battle for position in the AL West.
