Brendan Fraser makes comeback as 600-pound guy, gets standing ovation at 79th Venice International Film Festival
Brendan Fraser is making a big comeback in the drama "The Whale," by playing a 600-pound man, after being sidelined by physical and emotional pain from an alleged sexual assault by the former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Such devotion was a far cry from Fraser's previous years of anonymity, living peacefully on his horse farm in New Bedford, New York. He has endured severe agony and several operations as a result of stunts in action films like "The Mummy" trilogy, which made him famous and, he claims, kept him in and out of the hospital for seven years.
In 2018, Fraser came out to claim that he was assaulted sexually by Philip Berk, then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in 2003. The singer told GQ magazine that it caused him to retreat from the spotlight. He said he felt despondent and was blaming himself and was also depressed.
It even made him question whether he was blacklisted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which controls the Golden Globes, as he was rarely invited back to the awards event in the years following. The group stated that it was uninformed of the charges before the GQ piece, but Berk's response was stinging. He said his career plummeted though he was not at fault.
