When the film opened on September 4 at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, audience members were so affected that they gave Fraser a six-minute standing ovation and moved the actor to tears. According to reports, he attempted to exit the auditorium, but the ovation was so loud that it literally locked him in place.

Such devotion was a far cry from Fraser's previous years of anonymity, living peacefully on his horse farm in New Bedford, New York. He has endured severe agony and several operations as a result of stunts in action films like "The Mummy" trilogy, which made him famous and, he claims, kept him in and out of the hospital for seven years.

In 2018, Fraser came out to claim that he was assaulted sexually by Philip Berk, then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in 2003. The singer told GQ magazine that it caused him to retreat from the spotlight. He said he felt despondent and was blaming himself and was also depressed.
