What new role is the FBI playing in the investigation?
The case took a new turn after DNA samples collected from the scene were sent to the FBI. A private lab in Florida transferred the material for more advanced analysis, marking a significant step in the investigation.
Officials from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to The U.S. Sun that the search remains “active and ongoing.” They are continuing to work alongside federal agents while processing leads and reviewing information.
“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case,” a spokesperson said, as per a report by The US Sun.
This development follows earlier concerns about the complexity of forensic evidence, which experts say could take weeks or even months to yield results.

What evidence has been found at the crime scene?
Investigators have uncovered several key pieces of evidence since Guthrie was reported missing on February 1.
Surveillance footage has also played a role. A masked man was captured outside Guthrie’s home shortly after 2am on the night she disappeared. The individual appeared armed, wore gloves, carried a backpack, and attempted to interfere with the camera by tearing plants and trying to obscure the view.

Are ransom notes and past dates key to solving the case?
The case has also been complicated by multiple ransom communications sent to media outlets.
Two letters sent to TMZ in early April claimed conflicting information — one stating Guthrie was dead and another offering details about her alleged location and the identity of the abductor. According to TMZ founder Harvey Levin, the sender demanded half a bitcoin in exchange for that information.
Despite these messages, authorities have not confirmed whether the letters are credible or linked to the abduction.
Guthrie’s family has publicly appealed for proof that she is alive. In a video message released days after her disappearance, her son Camron Guthrie said, “We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first, we have to know that you have our mom.”
Investigators are also examining events that may have occurred before the abduction. Sheriff Chris Nanos previously pointed to January 11 — 21 days before Guthrie disappeared — as a date of interest based on FBI analysis of digital evidence, as per a report by The US Sun.
Authorities are also reviewing January 24, another weekend date, as they try to establish patterns. Brian Fitzgibbons, Director of Operations at USPA Nationwide Security, suggested these dates could help build a behavioral profile. Speaking on Nancy Grace’s Crime Stories podcast, he said, “All three of those on weekend nights. That is extremely probative…He’s always doing this on weekend nights. Why?…It adds a tremendous amount of color behind the profile that we’re building of this suspect."
Meanwhile, the investigation has faced criticism. A whistleblower told NewsNation that the initial response may have lacked experienced homicide detectives, raising questions about how the case was handled early on.

Where does the investigation stand now?
Despite the scrutiny and unanswered questions, authorities insist the case is far from cold. Law enforcement continues to follow leads, analyze evidence, and coordinate with federal agencies. The addition of FBI forensic analysis may provide new insights, though no timeline has been given for results.
For Guthrie’s family, the uncertainty remains the hardest part. As the investigation moves into its fourth month, their appeals for information continue, alongside the hope that a breakthrough could finally emerge.
