Braves name bench coach Walt Weiss as new manager after Brian Snitker’s exit - Check out his full journey
The Atlanta Braves have promoted longtime bench coach Walt Weiss to manager following Brian Snitker's departure. Weiss, who was part of the 2021 World Series championship team, brings prior managerial experience from his time with the Colorado Roc...

Weiss joined Atlanta’s coaching staff in 2018 and was part of the club’s 2021 World Series championship run. His promotion follows Snitker’s decision to move into a senior advisory role after his contract expired at the end of the 2025 season.
A native of Tuxedo, New York, Weiss brings prior managerial experience, having guided the Colorado Rockies from 2013 to 2016, where he compiled a 283-365 record. His best season came in 2016, when the Rockies went 75-87 before he stepped down.
Before his coaching career, Weiss enjoyed a 14-year MLB playing tenure as a slick-fielding shortstop and switch-hitter. He debuted with the Oakland Athletics, earning American League Rookie of the Year honors in 1988 and helping them win the World Series the following year.
Weiss later played for the Miami Marlins (1993), Colorado Rockies (1994-97), and Atlanta Braves (1998-2000). He became the first player to appear for both 1993 expansion teams - the Marlins and Rockies - and was an All-Star in his first season with Atlanta.
The Braves finished 76-86 in 2025, fourth in the NL East and 20 games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies, ending a streak of seven straight postseason appearances.
