Boxing champion Gervonta Davis arrested in Florida over domestic violence charges, read details

Gervonta Davis was arrested and detained in Florida over domestic violence accusations.

The 28-year-old is now the WBA regular lightweight champion and is set to face Hector Luis Garcia on the main event PPV on January 7 before facing Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas in April.

According to reports, the 28-year-old boxing champion was booked into Broward County prison on an assault charge. Davis' arrest and alleged domestic violence case, were not immediately disclosed.


Davis has a history of domestic violence arrests. In 2020, he was caught on tape grabbing his ex-girlfriend - and his child's mother - by the throat during a charity basketball tournament at the University of Miami. Davis turned himself in to police a few days after the video went viral on Twitter and was charged with simple assault domestic violence.


According to the arrest record at the time, the victim received damage to her lip and jaw. Davis is also scheduled to go on trial in Baltimore on February 16 for his alleged role in a separate hit-and-run in November 2020. Davis is facing 14 counts after allegedly fleeing the scene of an automobile collision in which four people were injured, including a pregnant mother.

Davis will face Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 in Washington, DC. It's unclear whether his arrest on Tuesday would have an impact on the match. The Baltimore native has won world titles in three weight classes, including the WBA lightweight belt since 2019. He is still unbeaten after more than nine years of professional boxing, with 27 victories and 0 defeats.
