Box Office Update: ‘Sound Of Freedom’ steals No. 1 spot from ‘Insidious: Red Door’, earns estimated $4 million

Sound of Freedom's victory on Monday provides hope for its potential performance in its second weekend.

Insidious: The Red Door, produced by Sony, Stage 6 Films, and Blumhouse, emerged as the top-grossing film over the weekend, surpassing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. However, on Monday, the independent film Sound of Freedom, created by Angel Studios, claimed victory with an estimated $4 million in box office earnings.

On Monday, Insidious: The Red Door secured the second spot, earning $3.5 million across 3,188 theatres, bringing its total revenue to $36.5 million. Sound of Freedom, which premiered on Tuesday, July 4, has amassed a total of $45.6 million so far. Insidious: The Red Door opened with $33 million during the weekend, outperforming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which earned $27.4 million.

Sound of Freedom continues to astound audiences as an independent film distributed by an indie company, capturing attention at the box office. Ticket sales have been boosted by right-wing organizations, and Angel Studios has capitalized on its faith-based core audience. This success story is reminiscent of American Sniper, but on a smaller scale.

Sound of Freedom's victory on Monday provides hope for its potential performance in its second weekend. The film had a strong opening day, generating over $14 million, including previews and crowdfunded contributions. However, it experienced a 72% drop on its second day, Wednesday, earning $4 million.

Starring Jim Caviezel as former Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard, Sound of Freedom depicts his personal mission to rescue abducted children worldwide. Angel Studios plans to expand its release by adding 300 more theaters, bringing the current count of 2,852 locations.

Meanwhile, Paramount/Skydance's Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is expected to dominate the box office with a projected $90 million opening over five days, starting with previews at 2 p.m. today, which will undoubtedly overshadow other releases.
