Emma Seligman, the Canadian director known for her breakout dark comedy film, Shiva Baby, is set to showcase her next movie, Bottoms, at this year's SXSW Festival. Seligman's film garnered critical and audience acclaim in 2020 after being selected for both SXSW and Toronto International Film Festival.

Bottoms will premiere at the SXSW Festival with two screenings on March 11, 2023, and March 15, 2023. Although official announcements have yet to be made about a possible streaming release, the movie is expected to have a limited theatrical release starting on March 11.

As Orion Pictures produced the film, which is an MGM Studios property, it is highly likely that Amazon Prime Video will be the primary streaming platform showcasing it, following Amazon's acquisition of MGM. The film's runtime is 92 minutes or 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Emma Seligman, the director of Shiva Baby, is reuniting with Rachel Sennott for her next feature film, a "campy queer high school comedy" titled Bottoms. The movie, which explores explicit themes similar to Superbad and American Pie, centers around two senior-year queer girls, who start a fight club to impress and hook up with cheerleaders.

The film's focus on LGBTQ+ characters follows in the footsteps of Seligman's previous work and represents a rarity in cinema, which is the representation of female adolescence through crude humor. Similar to popular films like Booksmart and Lady Bird, Bottoms promises to deliver a fresh take on the female-centric comedy genre.

Meet 'Bottoms' cast

Rachel Sennott comes as one of the leads and also a co-writer and executive producer, while the other lead is Ayo Edebiri. Other prominent characters are played by Ruby Cruz, and Havana Rose Liu.
