The tests were carried out on mice, and unlike the old standard Omicron strain, the mice just suffered mild symptoms when exposed to the virus. This new strain of COVID-19 is a hybrid variety created by scientists at Boston University that is highly potent and has an 80 per cent chance of killing. Scientists conducted this study, but it has not gone down well with medical experts and scientists. Professor Shmuel Shapira, a leading scientist with the Israeli government, warned the scientists at Boston University not to play with fire and indulge in manipulated virus research that peers haven’t monitored.

There have been theories that similar research on bats conducted in Wuhan Laboratory started the coronavirus pandemic. Research on potential pandemic pathogens needs to be increased and secured to avoid future problems. Dr. Richard Ebright of Rutgers University and a leading chemist, believe that if research is carried out, it helps us understand what goes wrong. It is only then that we can avoid the next lab-generated pandemic.

In Boston, scientists researching the Covid strain extracted protein from the Omicron strain. This protein is what clings onto the human cells and then attacks them. Researchers noticed that the mice reacted differently to the original strain than to the new one, which was mild on the mammals. But the new strain, Omicron S, attacked all the mice and killed 80 per cent of them, they wrote in their reports.
