Nmecha, whose mother is German and father Nigerian, has often been criticised for his political statements. Nmecha stirred controversy by expressing sympathy for Kirk’s family and condemning the celebration of his shooting as 'truly evil'.
"Rest in peace with God. Such a sad day," Nmecha's initial post on Instagram read, but he later changed it to: “May the Lord assist the Kirk family with special grace at this time. Jesus is the true way to peace and love.”
“Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Celebrating the murder of a father of two, a husband and a man who peacefully stood up for his beliefs and values is truly evil and shows how much we need Christ. May God have mercy and open our eyes and hearts, in the name of Jesus,” Nmecha further wrote.
According to brusselssignal.eu, the Bundesliga club said that the 24-year-old footballer has created quite a stir and provoked opposition, especially in fan circles, as they wanted to talk to him about the matter.
