‘Borderlands’: Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart Go Guns-Blazing in this new video game adaption

Prepare for a wild ride as Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart lead an all-star cast in the action-packed first trailer for "Borderlands," the highly-anticipated video game adaptation from Lionsgate set to hit theaters on August 9.

Based on Gearbox Software's popular first-person shooter series of the same name, "Borderlands" follows Blanchett's character, Lilith, an outlaw who returns to her home planet of Pandora on a mission to find the missing daughter of weapons manufacturer Atlas, played by Édgar Ramírez. To navigate the treacherous terrain of Pandora, Lilith assembles a ragtag crew of outcasts, including Hart, Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, and Florian Munteanu. Jack Black lends his voice to the eccentric robot Claptrap.

The star-studded ensemble also includes Haley Bennett, Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson, Steven Boyer, Charles Babalola, Olivier Richters, Janina Gavankar, Benjamin Byron Davis, Ryann Redmond, and Bobby Lee. Penn Jillette, known for his role in "Borderlands 3" and as one half of the magician duo Penn and Teller, makes a cameo appearance in the film.


The journey to bring "Borderlands" to the big screen has been in the works since 2015, with Lionsgate spearheading development and Arad Productions producing. Director Eli Roth ("Hostel," "Fin") joined the project in 2020, and filming took place in Hungary from April to June 2021. Ari Arad, Avi Arad, and Erik Feig serve as producers.

Since its debut in 2009, the "Borderlands" franchise has captivated audiences with its innovative gameplay, striking visuals, and irreverent humor. With over 60 million copies sold and $1 billion in revenue generated, the series has become a cultural phenomenon, making the film adaptation one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
