The Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) Country Music Awards 2022 were announced on Tuesday, November 8. The award ceremony took place at the BMI headquarters in Nashville and was attended by prominent songwriters, singers, producers and musicians of country music.
The event was hosted by Mike O’Neil, CEO & President of BMI. Among the renowned artistes present were Ashley McBryde, Luke Combs, Michael Hardy, Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown and more. Winners of the three major categories of the awards are as follows:
• Songwriter of the Year Award 2022 - Michael Hardy
• Publisher of the Year Award 2022 - Sony Music Publishing
• BMI Icon Award 2022 - Toby Keith
Michael Hardy had a successful year as he delivered five award-winning songs, which earned his first BMI Award ever. In his acceptance speech, Hardy thanked BMI for creating opportunities and supporting him in his songwriting career.
Likewise, Toby Keith called BMI the “greatest organization in the music business.” Keith also thanked his long-time manager TK Kimbrell and producer Harold Shedd. He said that he was “ungroomable” in his young days, and yet Kimbrell agreed to stand with him.
Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) is one the biggest performance rights organizations in the United States. As per reports, the company collected more than $1.57 billion in revenues in FY2022 and distributed over $1.47 in royalties. BMI is also one of the oldest music companies in the US.
