Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni legal feud: Taylor Swift’s spokesperson responds to subpoena, here’s what she said

Pop star Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed in the case of Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni, and her spokesperson has responded to the situation.

A representative for American pop icon Taylor Swift has publicly addressed a subpoena served to the singer in connection with the ongoing legal standoff between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

The dispute, tied to the production of the upcoming film It Ends With Us, has seen escalating allegations and drawn attention from across the entertainment industry.

Swift’s Limited Role Clarified

In a statement issued on Friday, a spokesperson for Swift clarified that her involvement in the film was strictly limited to the licensing of her song My Tears Ricochet for the soundtrack.

The spokesperson emphasized that Swift "never set foot on set" and "had no involvement in casting, direction, or post-production" of the project, as mentioned in a report by ABC News.

"Taylor Swift never saw an edit, made no creative input, and did not view the film until weeks after its release," the spokesperson stated, as quoted in a report by ABC News.

The pop star, who has been engaged in her record-breaking world tour throughout 2023 and 2024, was reportedly travelling globally during the entire production window.

Accusations of Exploiting Swift’s Name

The response from Swift’s team also strongly criticized the motive behind the subpoena, describing it as an attempt to “generate tabloid clickbait” rather than pursue meaningful legal discovery.

"Given that 19 other artists also licensed songs for the film, the decision to subpoena Taylor Swift appears calculated to exploit her name rather than based on factual necessity," the representative said.

Lively's Camp Condemns Tactics

Blake Lively’s spokesperson echoed similar sentiments, denouncing what they described as "a circus-like approach" to a serious legal issue.

The spokesperson said that Swift, a "global voice for millions," was being used to draw attention to a legal case that should remain focused on justice.

“This is not Barnum & Bailey’s Circus,” Lively’s camp asserted. “The ongoing public campaign by the defendants, including the subpoena of Ms. Swift, is designed to intimidate and shame women speaking out.”

The spokesperson further condemned the defendants' broader legal strategy, accusing them of seeking to undermine California’s victims’ rights laws and pushing back against the broader #MeToo movement.

Background of the Legal Dispute

The legal feud dates back to December 2024, when Lively lodged a formal complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, alleging sexual harassment by Baldoni during the filming of It Ends With Us, which he also directed.

Baldoni, represented by attorney Bryan Freedman, has denied the accusations, calling them “false and reputationally motivated.”

His countersuit includes claims that Lively tried to exert undue influence on the film’s production by leveraging her relationship with prominent figures like Taylor Swift and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, as mentioned in the ABC News.

Court Proceedings Ahead

The case is scheduled to be heard on March 9, 2026, at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, presided over by Judge Lewis Liman.

In the lead-up to the trial, Lively has filed an amended complaint, while both she and Reynolds have submitted motions to dismiss the countersuits lodged against them.

The legal teams for all parties, including attorneys for Baldoni and Lively, have yet to respond to inquiries following Swift’s official statement.
