The list of the year's most significant figures in each field, released by TIME Magazine on December 5, surprised K-pop lovers, as Blackpink made history by becoming the first girl group to win TIME Magazine's Entertainer of the Year title.
TIME magazine described the band as "this generation's icon that leads the trend" and "the largest female band in the world". The magazine also praises Blackpink for having a stellar year on the international music charts and for their second full-length album, which set several records.
Additionally, the magazine contained personal essays by all four members of the group (Jisoo, Lisa, Rose, and Jennie) and some of their beautiful images.
Speaking to the magazine about all of their accomplishments this year, Blackpink said, "We’re the happiest when we do music. Good results followed because we’re always happily enjoying every moment."
The four celebrities also thanked their fan group Blink and remarked, "I think the power of our fans who always love and support us constantly is the biggest reason [behind our achievements]. We will do our best in every moment with gratitude in our hearts."
