Disney has announced that "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", the film with five Oscar nominations, has set a record for being the most viewed Marvel premiere globally on Disney+. The company made the statement on Monday, stating that the claim is based on the total number of hours the film was streamed in its first five days, but no exact viewership figures were provided.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, directed by Ryan Coogler and with a global box office total of $842.3 million, was released on Disney+ on February 1 after a long 83-day theatrical run. According to Samba TV, which tracks viewership through a panel of 3 million US smart TVs, the film had a Live+4D household viewership of 2.1 million.

It had a notable viewing number of 2.1 million households on Disney+. This is 400 per cent higher than "Black Adam" and equal to "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". It is just below "Thor: Love and Thunder" at 2.2 million. Among Black, Hispanic and Gen Z adults 20-24 households, the movie outperformed by 44 per cent, 27 per cent, and 9 per cent respectively.

This demonstrates the effectiveness of windowing and stands in contrast to the theatrical releases of "Mulan", "Black Widow" and "Jungle Cruise". According to Cole Strain, VP Measurement at Samba TV, the highly anticipated sequel with a star-studded cast made a big impact in its Disney+ debut.

Samba TV gathers viewership information through its Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology integrated into the chipset of 24 of the top smart TVs worldwide. This captures content played on smart TVs and provides impartial viewership insights globally.
