Billy Packer, college basketball analyst, dies at 82. Check cause of death

Legendary basketball analyst and commentator Billy Packer has died, his son announced on Twitter. Billy Packer was 82-year-old. Billy Packer was considered as the voice of the NCAA tournament for more than three decades. Billy Packer died on Thursday night.

"The Packer Family would like to share some sad news. Our amazing father, Billy, has passed. We take peace knowing that he’s in heaven with Barb. RIP, Billy," Mark Packer tweeted.

Billy Packer spent 34 years on Final Four broadcast teams, including 27 years with CBS sports.


Billy Packer was an Emmy award-winning college basketball analyst. His last Final Four was in 2008.


Mark said that Billy Packer was admitted at a hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina for the last three weeks. Packer had multiple medical issues and died due to kidney failure, as per the Associated Press.


Packer started as a player for Wake Forest from 1958 to 1962. However, Packer became famous due to his role of an analyst.

Packer was father of Liz, Mark, Brandt. He had wife Barb.
