Singer Billy Joel has announced that he is postponing a string of concerts after he underwent surgery.

The 75-year-old has been forced to reschedule a total of eight shows since needs time to recover from an undisclosed “medical condition,” Us Weekly magazine reported.

Change in schedule

A statement on Joel's Instagram handle said that his current tour was being postponed by four months to grant time to the singer to "recover from recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors."


The Uptown Girl crooner is expected to make a full recovery, while the tour is expected to resume at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5.

On his behalf, Joel said that though he regrets postponing any shows, "my health must come first."

"I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding," he wrote.

Affected concerts

Among the key dates affected include Joel's upcoming events in Toronto, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Syracuse, Milwaukee and Charlotte.

The schedule change also affects his performances in Edinburgh and Liverpool. He was expected to perform at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on June 21-- the event being one of his two concerts in Europe this year.

Unfortunately, his fans will now have to wait until next year, with Joel now scheduled to appear at the same venue on June 20, 2026. Fans who have purchased tickets for the two shows in Europe will be valid for the rescheduled date.

March 14, 2026 - Rogers Centre, Toronto

What happened to Billy Joel?

During his performance at the Mohegan Sun in Montville, Connecticut on February 22, Joel took a nasty tumble on stage.

He was singing his 1980 song, It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me, when he tried to attempt his popular microphone trick.

According to concertgoers, he was trying to twirl the mic when he lost his balance while throwing it towards the crowd. After he fell on his back, other members on stage rushed to help him get up.

Earlier, he had announced to postpone his show in Hollywood, Florida in January this year for a “medical procedure.” That event has now been rescheduled for November later this year.
