Billionaire Yuri Milner renounces Russian citizenship

In light of the war between Russia and Ukraine, wealthiest Russian in Silicon Valley Yuri Milner renounced his Russian citizenship.

Russian-born Billionaire investor Yuri Milner has revealed that he had abandoned his Russian citizenship in August. Milner on Monday claimed that as a result of Russia's invasion of Crimea in 2014, he and his family permanently departed Russia. Milner claimed on his website that he obtained Israeli citizenship in 1999 and has been living in California since 2014 with his family.

He did not provide any justification for his announcement from Monday. Milner's representatives chose not to provide more details on his tweet.

Milner established the technology investment firm DST Global in 2009.


DST Global has been one of the top investors in huge companies like Meta Platforms Inc., known as Facebook; Snap Inc., known as Snapchat; Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi Corp.; Twitter Inc.; and Airbnb Inc.

According to reports, the net worth of Milner is $7.3 billion. On Milner's website, it is said that he has no holdings in Russia. He also mentioned that more than 90% of his assets were obtained from Russia, and he hasn't been there since 2014.
