Vivian Alexandra Spohr, the wife of billionaire Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr, is in serious legal trouble after she is said to have hit and killed a babysitter in a horrific accident in Sardinia, as per a report. The 51-year-old woman is being investigated for negligent homicide after the fatal crash in the Italian beachside resort of Porto Cervo, as reported by The Sun.

Babysitter hit while on zebra crossing in broad daylight

According to the report, Gaia Costa, a 24-year-old, was on a zebra crossing when she was struck by Spohr's BMW SUV at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the report. Costa had reportedly raised her arm in an attempt to warn the BMW of her presence before being hit, reported The Sun.

Initial reports claim Vivian Alexandra Spohr fled, lawyer says otherwise

While earlier reports had claimed that Alexandra Spohr had fled from the scene after the horrific crash, but her lawyer, Angelo Merlini, has dismissed those claims, as per the report. According to other reports, she allegedly had been stopped by a passerby before fainting after she saw what had happened. Some reports also claimed that Alexandra Spohr, who was driving with her daughter in the car, initially didn't notice the accident, according to The Sun.

However, Merlini on Saturday said that, "Contrary to what was previously reported, Vivian Spohr stopped after the accident and provided first aid to the girl," as quoted in The Sun report. The lawyer also pointed out that, "However, after an initial attempt at resuscitation, Vivian Spohr lost consciousness and fainted," as quoted in the report. Merlini also highlighted that her client struck the babysitter at a "very low speed" with her car, which has an automatic transmission and is very heavy, as reported by The Sun.

A witness at the scene of the accident revealed that moments after the collision, the driver opened the door of the vehicle and "immediately realised what had happened, put her hands to her face, and collapsed to the ground," as quoted by The Sun.

CCTV footage shows victim’s last moments before being hit

The CCTV footage showed that Costa was crossing the street before noticing the SUV approaching her, when she desperately attempted to stop it by waving her hand, but she was knocked to the ground moments later and banged her head, as reported by The Sun.

Even though ambulance services arrived at the scene quickly after the crash and Costa was reportedly still alive when help reached her, she had sustained serious head injuries, and paramedics spent over 20 minutes trying to revive her, but after some time she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

After the crash, the billionaire CEO's wife even took alcohol and drug tests, however, the results of both came back negative, reported The Sun.

As per The Sun report, Alexandra Spohr's SUV was seized and will undergo technical investigations, while even examination of Costa's body was conducted on Wednesday. The police continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident, reported The Sun.

The region's mayor, Gianni Addis, said that "Gaia was a young woman who was deeply involved in the city's social and cultural life," and added that, "She was passionate about our traditions and never missed the parades of the local folk group," as quoted in the report.
