Billie Eilish reveals she wrote song 'Goldwing' lyrics while thinking about Olivia Rodrigo

Billie Eilish, 21, recently shared her feelings of protectiveness towards fellow artist Olivia Rodrigo, 20, in an interview with The Los Angeles Times. Eilish, a Grammy winner, revealed that her song "Goldwing" from the 2021 album "Happier Than Ever" was inspired by Rodrigo's rapid rise to fame after the success of her hit single "Driver's License" in 2021.


Eilish expressed a sense of protectiveness over Rodrigo, noting the unique challenges of fame at a young age. She shared, "I felt so nervous. I was worried about her. She came up in that acting world, and people are so weird. I don’t know — I just felt very protective over her." The "Bad Guy" singer emphasized the individual nature of everyone's experiences while acknowledging her ability to relate to Rodrigo's journey.


The candid interview also unveiled Eilish's openness about her own struggles with fame, having gained widespread attention at the age of 14 with her debut single "Ocean Eyes" in 2016. She admitted to the BBC in 2022, "Growing up in the public eye is a very bruising experience, and it's really hard to grow and change." However, she shared in a recent Allure interview that she is "starting to do better" with fame after a period of difficulty.


Eilish's song "Goldwing" specifically addresses themes of vulnerability and being taken advantage of, with lyrics that touch on the challenges of navigating fame. Eilish revealed, "I have a song called 'Goldwing' from my last album that’s kind of about her. I’ve never said that to anyone."

The Grammy-nominated artist emphasized that her connection with Rodrigo is not unique, expressing a similar sentiment towards other young artists.
