Billy Murray recently revealed that he cried three times after he got emotional during the three-hour Saturday Night Live (SNL) episode that commemorated the legendary live sketch comedy series' golden jubilee last month.

The veteran actor-comedian's revelation came during his appearance on SiriusXM's Sway in the Morning.

Murray recalled he wept three times during SNL50: The Anniversary Special, pointing to the various montages played at the show. He said he had not anticipated revisiting the moments shown in the videos. One clip that particularly affected Murray that featured Gilda Radner and friend Steve Martin, he admitted.

Bill Murray recalls Gilda Radner and Steve Martin’s clip

The clip that made the Groundhog Day actor emotional was a sketch on Bruce Springsteen’s track Dancing in the Dark. Ratner and Martin danced together across Studio 8H in the clip. Radner passed away at the age of 42 in 1989 due to ovarian cancer. The clip was played on the first episode after her death that Steve Martin hosted.

"There was Gilda [Radner] up there dancing with Steve Martin and I remember being there, watching them rehearse that dance number for days and days and days. I love Gilda, I was crazy about Gilda. And I sort of came apart," the comedian told Sway in the Morning host Sway Calloway, as per Variety. Murray added that he was sitting in a dressing room with a bunch of other people and was unable to hold back his tears.

Bill Murray was part of SNL for three seasons, from 1977 to 1980. The Lost In Translation star officially joined the show's cast in the second season. He replaced Chevy Chase, who left SNL to pursue a career in the movie industry. Murray essayed several characters in the show, the most famous of which was Nick the Lounge Singer. He won an Emmy in 1977 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.

Bill Murray's on Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary special

Murray appeared on the screen several times during Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary special episode last month. As part of the golden jubilee episode, he reprised his legendary character of Nick the Lounge Singer. He was also joined on the stage by fellow SNL alums Cecily Strong, Ana Gasteyer, and Maya Rudolph.
