Despite being a single empty-nester, Bill Gates claims he will never downsize from his enormous mansion with 24 bathrooms. Bill Gates is unwilling to part with Xanadu 2.0, his expansive estate in Lake Washington, despite having more money than he could ever spend.

The 69-year-old Microsoft co-founder, who is single and an empty nester, has no intention of downsizing from his enormous 66,000-square-foot compound, which he first bought for just $2 million in 1988. It is currently valued at more than $130 million, as quoted in a report by The NY Post.

Why won’t he downsize?

Bill Gates, who was the richest person in the world for a long time, admitted to The UK Times that his house in Seattle was enormous. He is unable to downsize them. He enjoys the homes he owns.

It is a luxury that his children enjoy returning. Although he doesn't cook or make his own bed, he wouldn't mind if someone else did it because he wouldn't notice.

The pinnacle of billionaire luxury, Xanadu 2.0, was named in reference to the 1941 movie "Citizen Kane." It has 24 bathrooms, six kitchens, a private library, an indoor trampoline room, and a swimming pool with an underwater music system. Gates spent seven years and $63 million renovating the estate to his exacting standards, turning it from a house into a personal haven, as quoted in a report by The NY Post.

Even though Gates' ex-wife Melinda once described the mansion as "a bachelor's dream and a bride's nightmare," it has played a significant role in his life for many years.

In a 2008 interview, she even acknowledged that she reconsidered her decision to move in.
For Gates, however, the house is more than just real estate; it's an investment whose value has increased dramatically over time.

And his affinity for real estate is not unique. For more than 65 years, billionaire investor Warren Buffett has maintained his Omaha residence. The five-bedroom home, which was purchased for only $31,500 in 1958, is currently valued at approximately $1.4 million.
